In The Hosting Business World, Aplus.net Continually Works To Stay On Top
When you’re ready to build your online presence, it’s important to find the right place to host your website.
Reliability, as well as security, is very important in running a successful business website. Aplus.net boasts those benefits, and more.
Originally known as Abacus America, Aplus.net has grown substantially since the business was launched in 1992. As you could imagine, there are a lot of businesses which offer hosting, server, and domain registrar services. As an testament to their success, they have been successfully listed in the TopHosts Top 5 for over 5 years in a row, and that’s only one of the highly regarded mentions they’ve received.
What was the inspiration for Aplus.net?
Aplus.net began as Abacus America (PC/Server hardware reseller) that evolved into an ISP, then hosting company/domain registrar.
How has it grown/changed since it launched in 1992?
Our strategy has transformed dramatically several times over the years. At first, we sold only through wholesale partners from a physical location. When we started offering internet service, we slowly grew to a broader geographic region. And finally in 1997, we offered hosting and domain services in the global market.
Out of all the services you offer, which is the most popular among your customers? Why?
We offer a broad range of services that fit the needs of every small business. This means that we reach several market segments. In our most popular segment (shared hosting) our Business Class Plan is by far the most popular. This plan is a solid hosting plan that provides tremendous value and can support the basic website hosting needs of most small businesses today.
Are there any future plans for expansion?
Cloud hosting (also referred to as Grid Hosting) is definitely on the horizon. The technology is moving to a more scalable platform and Aplus.net intends to keep up with market demands.
What separates Aplus.net from other businesses like it?
Three Words: Value, Reliability, and Security
Winning the CNET Editors Choice Award is an amazing feat. What other awards has Aplus.net won?
We’ve also received the coveted #1 spot on the TopHosts Top 5 list (where we’ve had a constant presence for more than five years), and top honors from web hosting experts such as HostReview, RealMetrics, CompareWebHosts, Netcraft, and many others.
What is the hardest part of staying on top for a company like this one?
The hosting market is extremely saturated and the competition is fierce. If I have to pick the single most difficult aspect of staying ahead, it would be the requirement to move and adjust on a daily basis (sometimes more). Our industry is one of the fastes moving in business today. Especially in today’s market, if a hosting company is not prepared to innovate and react, they are as good as dead.
What have you learned from your involvement in this business?
Platform is everything. The quality of your technology directly affects the happiness of your customers, and the happiness of your customers directly affects the success of your technology company.
Using one sentence, what is the first step an entrepreneur should take when they decide to build their web presence?
The first step is to decide whether to build the site on your own or to pay a professional design team to build it for you (with our tools, both are viable options).

I’ve been using Aplus for over 6 YEARS.
I switched to GoDaddy for about a week, then quickly went back to Aplus.
I love how helpful they are via live chat and can always help me with what I’m trying to accomplish.

They are the best. Tech Support is unmatched

Aplus is absolutely pathetic. Systems are badly managed, extremely poor support and money hungry aggressive management.
Kindly check their reviews from REAL customers at other sites.
If you wanna live in hell then your most welcome to use aplus.

I agree with Anand. I’ve been an aplus customer for ten years. They were a great company at one time, but have gone downhill so fast after various transfers of ownership.
There is no stability. I’ve had parts of my website randomly go belly up without having the site updated in months. The error message informs me to contact the server administrator. Tech support then takes two days to “fix” the issue only to have it pop back up a month later. They won’t tell you what when wrong, and you pray that they don’t mess something up in the process — which they royally did last time and then they had the gall to request that I re-upload my entire site to see if that fixes the issue.
So, tech support is a joke — I’ve had numerous tickets closed without resolution. They say they’ll call you back and never do. Their chat agents don’t know a form page from FTP. And they’ll hold back on approving a domain transfer from them until it expires and then they want you to pay more to renew it with them so you can have the right to request another transfer.
I’m moving 16 domains and 6 hosting accounts from them. The pain of the transfer has finally outweighed the pain of sticking with them and their technical issues.
