Mompreneur Honoured For Calgary Firm's 'Organic' Growth
Calgary mom Jane Walter is ready to take her unique retail concept to the next level.
Walter, owner of organic-Kidz, was named Wednesday Calgary’s Mompreneur of the Year for 2009 by Southcentre and Mompreneur Magazine. The award includes six months of rent-free cart space in the mall as well as a prize package worth more than $30,000.
Her award-winning business, which is selling the world’s first stainless steel baby bottles, was launched last September and since then has sold thousands of products worldwide.
“It just kind of took off since then,” said Walter, the mother of two boys aged two and eight. The concept has also won several awards.
Walter said she was thrilled to have the opportunity to open up cart space at Southcentre on May 1.
“I think it’s fantastic. I think it’s going to allow us to take it to the next level because we’ve just grown so fast,” she said. “We haven’t had the opportunity to go out necessarily and sell to stores because we’ve just kind of done it with everyone coming to us.”
