Entrepreneur Reviews His Way Into A Business

When Jeff Maimon felt that he was not gaining any meaningful experience from his time as an unpaid intern, he decided to go into business for himself instead says the Pioneer Press.

Now, with the recent launch party for his new business, Jeff Maimon, 24, is hoping to turn his venture into a job with a revenue stream.

“If I’m going to be working for free, I want to be the boss,” said Maimon, who grew up in Buffalo Grove.

Maimon is pushing to get his Internet-based video program — ChicagoEatsTV.com — off the ground.

The Web site features his video reviews of Chicago area restaurants that would not likely be covered by television news shows.

“We’re not just rinky-dink film students with a couple of handy cams running around,” Maimon said. “Our mission — very, very simply — is we make high-quality videos of really cool restaurants.”

The mission began when Maimon returned to Buffalo Grove after a four-year stay in Boston, where he graduated from Northeastern University and worked a variety of internships and jobs in the music industry.

A lover of traditional Chicago eats, he said he frequently used entertainment outlets Metromix and “Check, Please!” to learn about where the good restaurants were.

He felt like the majority of their reviews covered trendy new spots or upscale destinations.
