No, it’s not who you think.

Sandwich chain Subway has announced it has overtaken McDonald’s as the country’s largest fast food chain, and part of that success can be attributed to 32-year-old franchisee Joga Shoker.

The former business student, who graduated from the University of Hertfordshire in 2000, is the proud owner and operator of five Subway outlets – three in Hatfield, one in Borehamwood, and another in Dunstable.

Joga, who now lives in St Albans but previously spent eight years living in Hatfield, said: “I’d looked at buying a franchise before, and Subway just seemed to be a great up-and-coming brand.

“It was a product that appealed to me, and having been a student, I knew it would appeal to the large student population in Hatfield.
