When I was a kid, my mother and most of my friend’s mothers worked outside of the home. My wife’s mother, on the other hand was a housewife. In those days, women who stayed home often supplemented the household income by making and selling crafts and tasty treats.
Today stay at home moms make their money on the internet. A recent study out of the UK found that almost half of all British housewives are making extra cash by working from home at computer-based jobs. The study even coined a name from the group: “mousewives”.
From selling things via Internet auctions to writing product reviews to handling overflow typing, they are bringing in some much-needed extra money while simultaneously caring for the kids.
According to the study, th top nine jobs for mousewives:
- Online market research
- Selling books, DVDs or CDs online
- Mystery shopping
- Reviewing events or items online
- Typing
- Setting up websites
- Catalogue sales
- Party plan
- Accounts for other businesses
