New Firm Aims To Fill Niche

Consumers are spending less. Commercial lending is scarce. Employees are being laid off.

For two Charlotte families, those conditions signaled the right time to open their new business.

Small Business Management Solutions opened in September to provide administrative services and office and meeting space for small companies and contractors.

Services include telephone answering, appointment scheduling, bookkeeping, accounting and collections.

Executive Vice President Tyler Grace said the recession is an ideal time to grow the business because “lots of people start businesses in a downturn.

And what they need is to focus on what makes them money, not worrying whether they missed a phone call.”

Vice President of Operations Niury Ortiz and her husband, Gabriel, came up with the idea of marketing back office services three years ago, during a drive to Ohio to visit Gabriel’s family. Gabriel runs a small pool company, Douglas Aquatics, and was frustrated because he knew he could earn more managing projects instead of completing paperwork, Ortiz said.
