Tutor Sets Up Shop

It seems logical to visit a shopping center to shop.

But what about picking up a tutoring session for your kid while you’re there?

A growing number of learning centers are popping up next to sub shops and grocery stores instead of in office complexes.

The reason comes down to convenience.

Ann Stengel is a Cary resident who will open a Mathnasium math tutoring center in Cary next month.

Stengel chose the Harris Teeter-anchored Cary Park Town Center off Green Level to Durham Road for her business.

“It’s visibility and accessibility,” she said. “A parent can leave their child while they go grocery shopping or get their nails done.”

Stengel conceded that she would have paid less rent if she had gone with office or warehouse space.

“But you then pay in your marketing and advertising to let people know you’re there.”

Over the past year, others in the Triangle made a similar decision.
