Remember The Customers You Never Had

We have all been there before, your browsing a store just to browse with no intention on buying anything, but then suddenly you see a product with great advertising that you just can’t walk away from. On your way to the counter to pay for this product you finally realize you can’t afford it right now so you put it back. This is the customer that they never had.

However, obviously their product and advertising was working great, it worked enough to get you to pick up that item and almost make it up to the counter before you talked yourself out of it. This means that there is still a great chance that if you liked the item that much, you will buy it in the future.

Now the objective for the store becomes ensuring that you PLAN on buying that item in the near future. This means that they now need to follow-up on the original inquiry you made on it. Maybe send you a little post card with the item on it to remind you it’s still there, give you a phone call to let you know of the new sale price for a limited time only and so on.

Remember that client you had awhile back who said he might have some work for you in the future? Go ask how he’s doing. Don’t ask about the work. Just see how he is. It’s entirely possible that he’s fine, but he’s been needing what you do. He just needed to be reminded. And that’s your job.
