Wausau Daily Herald:
Any parent with young children knows how difficult cooking a meal can be when there are small hands trying to help.
Rather than shoo them out, stay-at-home mom Joy Frystak invites her three young daughters into the kitchen with her. And that inspired her to start a new business.
Frystak, 33, of Weston is starting Fun in the Oven, a new service that offers cooking classes for kids ages 2 to 12.
“There’s so much to offer kids here, and this is just one more element,” Frystak said.
Previously, Frystak worked as a parole officer in Illinois, but chose to stay at home after her children were born. While the economic climate isn’t as favorable as she’d like it to be, she’s still excited about her new business.
“Now is as good a time as ever. I’ve received a lot of help and support along the way,” she said. “This is my way of giving back, and it’s a unique opportunity to work part time and still be there for my kids.”
The classes will be held at the Key to Life Community Center in Weston and the Wausau Business Development Center in Wausau, which are donating the spaces to help Frystak get a start.
“I think she’s going to have success beyond her dreams. It’s a niche that I can’t think of anyone tapping in the area,” said Romey Wagner, facility manager at the Business Development Center.
