Jewelry Is A "Feel Good" Business

Wicked Local:

For the past year, Kim Larson has worked for Silpada Jewelry, and said the key is being a people person. Much of her business is conducted through parties, where on average, she sells $985 worth of jewelry.

“I like to go to these parties as a social thing,” Larson said. “They get to buy something at the parties and they’re seeing their friends.”

Silpada was founded by Bonnie Kelly and Teresa Walsh, both mothers who were looking for a new business to start. The jewelry is sterling silver and hand-crafted, with hundreds of designs available. Like McHugh, Larson’s business is busiest during the winter months.

Larson finds the locations for the parties, and does all the legwork to invite the guests and arrange the evening. Larson will lay out around 150 different pieces, ranging in price from $17 to $279, and explain some of the different designs available, as well as answer some questions about how they are made.
