Keeping Earth Day Revolving Year-Round

Today is Earth Day and millions of people across the country will be participating in environmentally conscious activities.

By tomorrow, many of those same people will likely be tossing cigarette butts or fast food wrappers out the window of their car.

According to a story on Tampa Bay Online, Scott Harper, the county’s solid waste services manager, said today is a great starting point for people to get in the mindset of recycling everything from newspapers and plastic bottles to appliances and phone books. Most everything is recyclable, he said.

Tom Lowe, owner of Buck & Buck Office Equipment said his company recycles used printer toner cartridges so they don’t end up in the landfill.

It’s profitable and saves the environment as well, he said.
Lowe, 49, said his Brooksville company tries to be as “green” as possible, even to the extent of recycling its cardboard boxes.

Lowe said it’s nice to have one day to remember to be good stewards of the Earth and hopes that people will continue the spirit year-round.
