Direct Selling Market Booms During Recession

In 2009, more than $15 billion in U.S. nutrition industry sales were generated from non-retail channels, including direct selling. With the economy still struggling, USANA Health Sciences has seen their company grow this year as people began turning to direct selling to supplement their incomes or to start a new career altogether.

USANA, a wellness direct sales company, has consistently generated impressive returns for shareholders, beating larger competitors like Avon and catching the attention of CNN which recommended USANA as “Stock of the Day.” With this year’s growth, USANA decided to purchase China-based direct selling company BabyCare Ltd in order to penetrate and compete in China’s direct selling market.

Direct selling in the past has gotten a bad reputation, with associations of pyramid schemes and faulty products. However, USANA has put their money into the research and science behind every product and created quality products that have attracted the attention of the US Speedskating Team. Olympic Gold Athlete Derek Parra has personally gone on record to attribute his success to USANA products.
