Celebrating Women In Business

Today is International Women’s Day. Now is the time to look back and consider just how far women in business have come. To celebrate, TheStar.com has pulled together some quotes from various business women on what they feel we should be proud of.

“More women graduating from college and graduating with professional degrees than ever before. The fact that women have big ambitions and feel that they can do anything, I think is fantastic.”
Bonnie Fuller, president and editor-in-chief, Hollywoodlife.com

“I think you see a big transformation in the television business. In private broadcasting, only one per cent of people who were at the top of the decision-making structure were women (in the early 80s). Really what changed that was the advent of cable television. All of a sudden, women were the heads of Discovery and Alliance Atlantis and all these other places. I think that’s just fabulous.”
Barbara Barde, President and Executive Producer, Up Front Entertainment Inc.

“While the glass ceiling in the business world for women does still exist, woman executives can serve as inspiration to the next generation of woman leaders. We can use International Women’s Day to celebrate the advancement of women’s rights but more importantly to remind everyone of our collective responsibility to provide equal opportunity and respect for future generations.”
Stacey Allaster, Chairman and CEO, Women’s Tennis Association

What successes in business do you think women should be thankful for today?
