International courier services mean that you can give Christmas gifts to all your loved ones all over the world.
Check you Can Send It
Make sure you know the country’s weight and size limitation. There are also prohibited items that are different for each country, as well as items that the courier company themselves won’t ship, such as dead animals, human remains and things like medicine. Certain items may need a certificate or license to be imported, and some things may be censored. Some countries may ask you to declare the titles of books and DVD, as they may be banned. However, most items (unless you are giving dead animals as a gift) that are Christmas gifts, apart from perhaps alcohol should be fine.
Packing
Obviously the way you wrap your presents is up to you, but you should keep in mind that it may be squashed or the wrapping torn in transit. However, if you pack well, you will be able to avoid these problems.
-
Use a high quality cardboard, preferably corrugated and double walled.
-
Choose the right size for the contents- if the contents move inside, the box is too big.
-
Wrap the individual contents with bubble wrap or something similar, and use padding or something like polystyrene chips to fill space in the box.
-
Seal the box with something designed for shipping, like parcel tape. Try to avoid using sellotape as it is not strong enough.
Labeling
To avoid confusion, remove all other labels. Make sure the part of the box that you’re putting the label onto is clean and dry, and is not wrinkled. Don’t put it on a corner or seams. Write the full address onto the label clearly; making sure it is not obscured by parcel tape.
Insurance
Some couriers cover the goods if they are damaged or broken, but some may not so you must check with the company. Most try to take extra care with your goods.
Christmas Delivery
Christmas is obviously a very busy time for the post man, so you must take this into account. Most companies have a schedule that you can look at to make sure your presents get to their recipients on time, so be sure to check it.
Happy Christmas!
