Young Lad’s Bracelet Biz

Online Athens:

In most ways, Wesley Williamson, who turns 11 today, is like many boys his age.

He is learning to play guitar and plays in a band with friends. He also likes playing baseball, bouncing on a trampoline and hanging out with friends.

But in one significant way, Wesley is quite different from most 11-year-olds. He’s also the owner and operator of a small business, which the young Madison County resident launched before his 10th birthday.

Wesley calls his business Rescue Wrist. The enterprise consists of the manufacture and sale of so-called rescue wrist bracelets — snap-on bracelets woven of strong nylon paracord initially developed for parachutes.

They’re called rescue bracelets because in a pinch the wearer can easily unravel the colorful bracelet to yield 8 to 10 feet of the strong cord, which can support 550 pounds.
