The Friendliest States For Business

By on May 9, 2012 in News

How friendly is your state toward business? The graph above breaks down the states using a grading scale. FeedFront went into further detail:

Some key findings from the survey:

  • Texas had three of the top five cities (Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio and Austin), while California was home to the bottom three (Los Angeles, San Diego and Sacramento).
  • Nationwide, small businesses owned by politically conservative entrepreneurs were 17% healthier than small businesses owned by politically liberal entrepreneurs.
  • Idaho, Nevada and Delaware had the most small business-friendly tax codes; California and New Mexico had the least-friendly tax codes.

  • Realist

The results are not all that surprising. The state’s attitudes towards business (reflected in it’s regulations) represent the views of its inhabitants — California’s entitlement/dependency on government (“take care of me”) mentality, versus Texas’ rugged individualism (“get out of my way”) thinking.

With few exceptions, the map above mirrors the 2008 presidential election results. States with below average business climate backed the candidate who is anti-business, while the above average business climate states voted for the small government proponent.

You’re right realist, I think it also matches migration patterns across the country as well… (people moving from bad business states to good business states)
