You Can’t Keep A Vintage Toy Entrepreneur Down

Carin Shaw refuses to let high rents or a tough economy stop her from launching her vintage toy shop, says Mountain Xpress.

Vintage Childhood is devoted to the toys, books, quilts, decor, and dollhouses and miniatures that have made generations of children (and collectors) happy. She decided to rent a small permanent building at the Blue Ridge Flea Market (located at 1416 Tunnel Rd) giving her an indoor area where much of her stock is on permanent display on shelves, and in a building that has electricity and outlets for her use. Just outside the building, there are three large display tables.

Says Shaw: “I chose the Blue Ridge Flea Market because it’s on a well-traveled road, gets lots of visitors, and is a family-owned operation that offers low rent and includes electricity. Business is picking up now as people who love my sort of stock, particularly the dollhouses and miniatures, are discovering me and telling friends about me.”
