For four years, Steve Shaw and Ron Helms have been asked frequently if and when Famous Dave’s was going to come back to Peoria. They would get these questions at the Famous Dave’s restaurant they own in Bloomington.
“Today, we can finally say it is coming back to Peoria very soon. We’re excited,” Shaw, president of Mercedes Restaurants Inc. of Peoria, which will be the franchisee for the new Famous Dave’s, said Friday.
The popular barbecue restaurant, famous for its ribs, chicken, brisket and corn bread muffins among its menu items, will open in the former Baker’s Square location at 7411 Grand Prairie Drive. That’s across from The Shoppes at Grand Prairie where the previous Famous Dave’s restaurant was located under different ownership.
Mercedes Restaurants, which also owns a Famous Dave’s in Mishawaka, Ind., said the Peoria store will open in late August or early September. It will be a full-service restaurant serving the complete Famous Dave’s menu, said Shaw. More.
