The Lean Mean Funeral Machine

For those that feel cremation just isn’t enough, there is always resomation. While it’s not quite legal in most places the inventor, Sandy Sullivan, hopes that will change soon, says The Daily Record.

His device turns the human body into dust – which can be kept by grieving families – and a coffee-coloured liquid which is flushed down the drain.

Glasgow-based Sandy has sold machines to Canada and the US, where five states allow the process, which is seen as being environmentallyfriendly.

He said: “I am getting a lot of requests from families and we hope it will become legal in Scotland within the year.

“Burial space is running out and I have had lots of people contact me whose loved ones have chosen resomation.

“They like the environmental benefits and the thought of going the water route – as opposed to burial or fire.

“You still get ashes back but the carbon footprint is massively reduced.

“It’s a highly sensitive subject but we’ve done lots of research and I think the public are ready for it.
