Mary Kay Convention Gives City Economic Boost

Click2Houston.com:

Mary Kay Inc. is holding its annual conference at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

“It’s more than about selling lipstick,” Independent Senior Sales Director Karin Schmaltz said.

Seven years ago, Schmaltz, a wife and mother, traded in her high-paying corporate job for a life at home with her children. She took a leap of faith and began selling Mary Kay from home, and that’s when things began to take off.

“This company was founded by a woman, and it’s for women, so there’s an large amount of sisterhood. It’s more than about beauty on the outside. It’s about the inside as well,” she said.

Nine thousand people are in Houston for the convention, and that will bring in an estimated $9 million to the city.
