The BBQ Cleaner was launched in 2006 in Bergen County, NJ.
Tell us a little about your business opportunity.
The BBQ Cleaner gives people looking to start their own business all the tools, training, supplies and knowledge they need to start a successful business. It’s easy to setup and operate, offers great earnings potential and has almost no restrictions. Because we are not a franchise, we give people the freedom to operate this business how they want. Plus, the home barbeque market is bigger than ever which means a large customer base. And, unlike other home services, like paving or siding, which only happen every ten years or so, our customers keep coming back year after year.
What are some of the tools that are included with the BBQ cleaning kit?
We give owners all equipment including a patent pending cleaning system, a step-by-step Operations and Startup guide, cleaning supplies for up to 100 jobs, and customized marketing materials delivered to their door. They receive everything they need to get started.
What are the requirements?
There is no prior experience required but owners do need to be willing to work hard and get their hands dirty. As far as the investment level – our business opportunity requires a low investment compared to others.
What inspired your business?
We use a unique cleaning system, Ovenu, that was imported from the U.K. It has been a great success in Europe and Australia since 1994 with over 120 locations.
We tested this system in Bergen County for the last two years to make sure that this business was profitable. We tested both ovens and barbeques and discovered that barbeque cleaning provided a tremendous opportunity. In fact, our test market shows that you can charge between $99 and $149 per cleaning depending on your area. With just two or three cleanings a day (depending on your price) in a year-round climate, a person could earn $77,000 a year. With each cleaning only taking about one and half hours, that’s a lot of money for working just 4 to 5 hours a day.
We also found out there’s a very basic truth about barbeque grills: Everyone knows grills get extremely greasy and dirty but they really hate to clean them. Until now, grill owners did not have many places they could turn to have their grills professionally cleaned. The BBQ Cleaner fulfills that customer need.
How has it changed/grown since it launched?
We started selling our business opportunity in mid-March and have already made several sales with many more people who have expressed great interest.
Since we just started we don’t have much we’d like to change right now but we are looking forward to learning from our customers’ businesses to see how we can improve the business opportunity and continue to increase everyone’s chances for success.
What are some of the goals you hope to reach over the next year or so?
Our goal is to expand across the entire United States especially in warmer climates where grilling is year round and this service would be in great demand.
